DCLABS is offering a DCSERVER backup service to all DCLABS customers.
Upon signing up for the service, DCLABS will create a nightly backup schedule
for your server that will compress and send the changes that have been made
on your server each day to our head office. These backups shall themselves be
backed up at DCLABS.
In the event that files need to be recovered, you may ask DCLABS for the requested
file and we can restore it to your server. A web based file retrieval system
is being tested now and will soon be available. In the event that your Hard
Disk or DCSERVER is stolen or damaged, we can rapidly recreate your system hard
disk from the latest backup and ship it to you immediately (Hard disk cost +
Shipping extra cost).
The Backup service costs (Australian Dollars ex GST):
- $300 initial setup.
- $50 per month service charge - for less than 100GB storage
- $50 extra per month service charge for every extra 100GB.
For a small initial charge of $85 per hour, DCLABS can also set your DCSERVER to
backup data that is stored on your Windows machines as well. Once this is done,
it is all included in the main backup. Each backup will send a confirmation email
to the customer.
Advantages of this service over Tape Backups:
- No manual handling
- No need to buy tapes
- No hassles in restoring tapes (especially if tape drive busted, or stolen,
or obsolete)
- No need to test tapes (and fingers crossed that they will work again!).
- No concerns over sourcing the correct tape drive in the event of theft.
- No security issues involved in transporting tapes to offsite backup.
- No missing backup times due to human forgetfulness.
- Allows DCLABS to recreate users hard disk easier and cheaper.
- Off site backup.
